Boy do I have a lot to learn…
May 29, 2008
So now that I seem to have finally gotten “settled” here in Orlando, I am starting to really realize just how big the project that lies ahead for me really is. Not that I was ever really naive enough to think that starting a tech company was going to be easy, but I guess i didn’t really quite understand all of the things that are going to go into it.
I’m far from even coming close to understanding all of the things that are going to develop over the next few days, weeks, months, and hopefully, years.
But at least to start, I am finally beginning to gain an understanding to the online social media community. I’ve been figuring out how to subscribe to RSS feeds and really delving deeper into the” blog-o-sphere” community. There’s just so much information out there that it can become pretty overwhelming, but not only is it important for my development as a co-founder of jamblr; It’s also going to help expand my knowledge as a person, and there’s nothing better than learning as much about everything as you possibly can. That sounds pretty good to me. Just another puzzle piece that I am trying to put together…

My Day at Digital Photography School
May 29, 2008
I would consider myself a professional blogger, aside from the fact that the income I receive from it is less than stellar. However, one of my favorite places to get blogging tips, news and ideas on how to grow and expand my audience is with Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger site.
I knew Darren made a great income off of his blogging and ventured further into his career when I stumbled upon Digital Photography School. DPS is a blog and forum based around, you guessed it, Digital Photography. With my newfound home in the jamblr crew, learning about Photography and how they think and work has become something I have found myself very interested in. Learning how they work will help me make jamblr work for them.
So what can I find at Digital Photography School? Taking a glance at the blog’s homepage, recent articles include;
Turning Black and White Photos into Color Ones
15 Tips for Candlelight Photographs
The DPS Forum contains one stellar section, a “Critique my Shot,” portion where real photographers get real feedback from other photographers and members of the forum. What’s great is that you upload your photo into the category that fits best, so you are judged by others with similiar scenes and so on.
Personally, I take horrible photos. For my blog posts I usually head over to Flickr and use an image from a Creative Commons search. This has worked great and shed light onto some of my posts. Now that I am jumping into a Social Collaboration realm, I am realizing that it may be time to express myself through images that I see and take apart in.
Hopefully with some tips from Darren and the gang at Digital Photography School, my shots won’t suck so much.
Talk to ya next week jamblr’s!

Students using Jamblr
May 27, 2008
I recently was enrolled in Entertainment Marketing, a marketing elective offered at the University of Central Florida. This class, along with almost every business class, called for a semester-long group project. Without diving deep into the content of the project, my team decided to create a tutorial video, to demonstrate a successful way to promote a CD Release Show.
Of course, my group consisted of marketing majors, all with creative minds, however none of us were knowledgeable on editing video clips.
We eventually outsourced to a friend of ours in the film department, and he successfully created us a video that led us to win “Best Presentation.”
Beyond the obvious benefits of jamblr, it can also help students complete upper level projects for school, just like me. Jamblr will allow students and filmmakers everywhere to help each other out, and create a masterpiece together, for their portfolio or simply to get a good grade.
My group could have presented our ideas and objectives on jamblr, and we could have perused a list of jamblr video users to help edit our project.
Jamblr is going to provide support to everyone and anyone, for whatever the reason may be.
So think outside the box, and see how jamblr is going to apply to you.

Weezer’s Pork and Beans Video
May 26, 2008
The following post serves as not only a token of appreciation for Weezer’s music and career, but also to demonstrate what jamblr can do for viral music videos. Watch the new Weezer video embedded below and realize that each and every aspect of the clip could be collaborated and completed on jamblr’s website. The video embodies the endless possibility that is Jamblr.com.
Last Friday, the music video was unleashed to the web. In typical Weezer fashion, the band has utilized their clever wit and originality to create one of the funniest videos ever made. “Pork and Beans,” the first single off of the group’s forthcoming self-titled “Red” album, has been making waves throughout the internet the entire weekend. Talk about going viral.
The best thing about the video is the creative employment of a plethora of the viral YouTube videos of the past. The boys of Weezer recruited such superstars as the Numa Numa guy, the Chocolate Rain guy, the “leave britney alone” guy, the clumsy ninja, the coke-and-mentos guys, the dude from “shoes,” and many more.
The person that can find and list the most YouTube videos that were poked fun at in this video receives a prize. Please post your comments below.

Jimmie’s Chicken Shack and jamblr Collide
May 21, 2008
Last week before the FMF parties and showcases began, jamblr hosted a pre-party sponsored by Budweiser, Rock For Hunger and Rock Pink at Central Station’s Rock Bar in Downtown Orlando. There was live music by local acoustic pop-rock act Dagnese and a battle of the bands beer pong tournament.
Also in attendance was 90’s rock stars Jimmie’s Chicken Shack. They came by to sign-up for jamblr and sign a few posters before their big sold-out show at AKA Lounge next door.
Here are a few photos from the night!

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported. We had over 50 new sign-ups that night who are ready to jump into the jamblr network when we launch this fall.
See ya next time!

FMF ‘08 Review
May 19, 2008
This weekend, May 15-17th was the seventh annual Florida Music Festival in Downtown Orlando. Hosted and created by Axis Magazine founders, Sean Perry and Rick Wheeler, the annual event promotes the local arts through music, film, and art.
Just when I thought that Florida Music Festival was about to reach its pinnacle, the seventh annual event completely failed to deliver on all of its participating facets. They may have pulled an act like Blue Man Group to headline Thursday night, but aside from that (which didn’t even live up to the hype), there were too many factors that made this year’s event inferior to each of its predecessors.
Not only was the national, regional, and local talent lacking, but there wasn’t one “it” showcase or highly anticipated performance from an up and coming act. Two years ago, there was Big 10-4’s sellout showcase at BackBooth (which ultimately led to their 15 minute record deal with Universal) and last year was all about Between the Trees. This year, I couldn’t tell you who the “it” band was. If I had to choose, I would have to vote for The Schmeltz. Once you look them up and listen to their music, I hope you won’t just laugh at their comedic music, but what this means for the festival as well.
So, what happened to the Orlando scene? I understand that a lot of the respectable bands have realized that FMF isn’t the best event for bands to play every year, but come on. I can honestly say that I only witnessed two undiscovered acts that are even worth talking about. Those acts are Ladyfish and Peter Baldwin. Outside of them, I was bored with a lot of performances and utterly concerned at the level of effort and promotion by all of the bands.
Along with the showcases, the panels were lacking as well. In the past, the festival featured multiple days of industry networking opportunities and conversations on interesting topics of the music industry. This year, however, only one day sufficed and it failed to deliver anything noteworthy or important.
Despite all of the problems with the event, FMF is still a great weekend for Orlando. The idea may not be executed as well as it could be, but the fact that a small scene of culture, art, music, and film seeps through the “boy band” and “Disney” labels defacing Orlando today, still is reason enough to celebrate.
jamblr Presents: “TECHnically Music”
May 12, 2008
On Wednesday night, May 14th, jamblr will be hosting a networking event for artists, musicians, and filmmakers in Orlando at Central Station’s Rock Bar. The event will begin at 6pm and will feature live music, free beer, local charities, games, and an opportunity to register for our site.
This event will serve as both a prologue to this weekend’s Florida Music Festival and a pre-party for the Jimmie’s Chicken Shack concert at AKA Lounge later in the night. Expect to see special guest appearances by Cori Yarckin and Rock Pink, Social Ghost, Junkie Rush, and an exclusive autograph signing by Jimmie’s Chicken Shack themselves. With the possible presence of a “Battle of the Bands: Beer Pong Tournament,” you may also have the chance to show off your skills against the big timers.
After the event, we hope that everyone will join us in our travels to the show at AKA Lounge, which will begin at 8pm.
We will be continuing our promotion at the JCS show and throughout the entire FMF weekend. If you see any of our team members somewhere, please say hello. Also, if anyone would like to help out with promotion, please leave a comment below.
See you all Wednesday night!

A Brief History of the Imminent
May 9, 2008
Right now, the world’s top physicists at CERN have begun their final preparations for the first test of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). For those of whom are unaware of the significance of this monumental event, this massive instrument might possibly lead us to the key which unravels ALL secrets in the known universe. In laymen terms, as I’m certainly no physicist…
This will reveal the most elusive missing link to the Standard Model of particle physics, the Higgs-Boson; otherwise known as:
“The GOD Particle”
Hopefully that has woken you up a bit this fine Friday morning, and with any luck, you haven’t strayed off to Wikipedia researching these outrageous claims.
Now you’d be smart to ask, “What the hell does discovering the most important scientific breakthrough of the 21st century have to do with Jamblr?!?!” And I can tell you…
Absolutely Nothing & Everything!
As I type this post, I can gather one certainty why these two unrelated topics might have some relevancy to one another. While science is continuously trying to find the missing pieces to our existence, the innovative team at Jamblr is filling the void that is Online Social Collaboration. A truly original step forward in social media.
Perhaps now would be an appropriate time to introduce myself, the last unspoken Jamblr colleague. My name is Daniel Gioulakis; however, to the majority that is not my parents, I go simply by Danny. I represent the technical side to Jamblr: the coder, the geek … If you like to go by stereotypes. It has been my passion since 11 years of age in which I first dabbled in HTML and was hooked! Since then, my passion has lead to an obsession in the field of computer science. And so I’ve become a student; exploring and learning, with over 10 languages, four regional and state awards, and one A+ certification which I still have yet to find use for.
Throughout the course of production, it is my aim to keep everyone informed on Jamblr, technically speaking. The challenges faced when building an online community in which employing current trends, whilst improving upon and staying ahead of the curve, to bring fresh, unique, never-before seen experience to social media user interaction. Watch out Tila Tequila … VH1’s got their eye on Jamblr for their next reality series!
This being my first post, I have decided to keep this blog with a more personal standpoint. I would love to hear feedback from the community and always keep my lines of communication open. Please email me with thoughts, questions, or ramblings.

A New Idea For a New Era
May 8, 2008
I just graduated college. Whoa. And for the first time in my conscious life, I am without a necessary path that I must follow. As scary as that may be for some, for me, it is the most liberating feeling in the entire world. I may be without an exact path, but I am not without a definite goal.
Never before have I felt more passion for any undertaking than I do for jamblr. Not because I think its going to be a smart career choice, or its going to make me lots of money (although I certainly hope it does), but because I believe so strongly in the idea. Social Collaboration. Social Networking sites have changed the way we communicate, stay in touch, and even do business, but as great as that is, they still haven’t tapped into the potential that all of these new tools offer.
Jamblr is going to allow people to not only network, but actually work together. It’s an idea that is far more encompassing than just film, music, photos, and writing. It’s an idea that allows people from all over the world- different faiths, backgrounds, colors and creeds- to work together with a common purpose and help each other reach creative potentials that may otherwise never have come to fruition.
The greatest thing that came out of the hippie revolution of the 1960’s was this idea that everyone is connected and that if people put aside their differences and actually work together anything can be possible. Although the movement died out, the idea continued to live on and can finally be manifested with all of these new Social Networking tools at our disposal.
I don’t expect jamblr to be the cause for world peace or anything (well maybe not right away), but I do know that anything that can bring people together for a great common purpose is something I’m very proud to be a part of.
You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I am certainly not the only one…Lets jambl!

KG and the Band | The Backbone of jamblr
May 7, 2008
Last Saturday night, May 2nd I was at Backbooth in Downtown Orlando checking out an amazing local band and good friends of mine. The band was KG and the Band.
Greg, why are you talking about a local band?
KG and the Band isn’t your typical local band. For years now, KG has been the center piece of a rotating band of talented musicians. New guitar players and fill in keys. Rent a saxophonists, one-off drummers. Even now that his roster is stable, he has composed great talent from all types of geographic backgrounds and ethnicities.
Through all the constant roster changes, the music has spoken louder than the players and broken through your typical local band tunes.
Jamblr was created for just this type of environment.
For musicians that see the bigger picture, but need help putting the pieces together. A talented song writer and entertainer like KG can throw up a melody and some rough vocals and let musicians from across the world add pieces to his musical puzzle. When KG feels the track is complete, he can close it up and split the songs writes with all the contributing artists.
Virtual bands and musical collaborations are just one side of jamblr, but it plays a huge part in our inspiration. All 5 of us jamblr’s have been associated with bands, needed inspiration and vision for our music and set out to find great, new talent.
As the jamblr journey begins, we are looking for KG’s across the globe to connect with and make their art become reality. It’s very exciting for us to see their dreams start to be realized.
KG currently has a steady crew backing his Kenyan rock and world beat music and is taking his show on the road. Be sure to check him out a venue near you. Below is his current show schedule:
May 11th | The Social | Donald Johnson Benefit | Orlando, FL
July 5th | The Social with Laura Reedand some hip-hop artist named G-Ro | Orlando, FL
July 18th | Dunedin Brewery | Dunedin, FL
